Look beyond what we see and treat our children and one another better

What if you saw someone who appeared to be clearly miserable? What if I said I had to walk six miles to get to the store one way and six miles back? What if I had been beat the night before, you saw my scars and I went on with my day as if nothing happened? What if everyday, a man that I worked with made it his business to call me out of my name? Every single? Would you speak any kinder to me when you saw me? Would you keep in mind all the hardships that I have experienced? I probably wouldn’t be the most pleasant person when you saw me, or maybe I would be just to hide the pain. Would you accept whatever disposition I had and understand that I am more than that short answer that I gave you? These things happen to children everyday and they go without saying a word about their sad realities.
Our children go through so much. They experience everything (and more) that we experience. Do we keep in mind that they have hardships? Do we keep in mind that both children and adults have hard ships and what we see of one another everyday is not the complete person?
Perhaps if we kept this in mind when we see our children after a long hard day of work we would treat our children a bit different. Perhaps if we kept this in mind as we greeted one another we would be more considerate with one another.
It is my prayer that we begin to treat our children, and one another for that matter, with more compassion and consideration for the unknown that each of us experience everyday.
