Saving Our Children, Saving Ourselves

Holy Qur'an Surah 66:6 -- "O you who believe, save yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is men and stones; over it are angels, stern and strong. They do not disobey Allah in that which He commands them, but do as they are commanded."

The above verse is from the 66th Surah of the Holy Qur'an titled, "The Prohibition." According to the preface of the Surah written by Maulana Muhammad Ali the opening verses of this Surah are dealing specifically with circumstances surrounding two women, one of them is the mother of Jesus and the other is said to be a wife of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

This verse is an indicator that we have the capacity to avoid the chastisement and the pain of this world's fate. We do not have to suffer to the degree that we do if we would but attempt to save ourselves with our actions prompted by right guidance and obedience.

How does this correlate to motherhood? We can save ourselves and our families from a fire.

We see the pain of the street life our children get caught up in, but if we are a little more firm with our "No. You don't need to be out there." Or, "No, you can't play with him or them," etc., we are actually taking a step to save our children from the painful sting of this world.

As Mothers, we are watching our sons die, either spiritually, morally or physically. We are losing far too many of our sons. Yes we are losing our daughters as well, however the plight of our boys and men, today, is out weighing that of our girls.

Can we save them? Do we know how to save them? Simply put, yes. With the help of Allah and through our obedience to Him and His servant The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, we can change this crisis we are facing. But it is going to take work and submission on our parts as mothers, parents and guardians.

Let's have the courage to teach our children to be different from what they see out in the streets. Let's have the strength to insist that we get the respect and obedience we deserve from our children. Not that any one is interested in having a child jump because we raise our voices, but teaching them respect and proper behavior can save their lives.

That fire whose fuel is men and stones is real. Poorly guided, arrogant, rebellious and downright evil men will fuel that fire. But it is as a child that they grow into becoming that way at the hands of a Mother who failed to do her duty in raising a child that will benefit, not harm, humanity. Yes those men will face that fire, but the Mother who does not do her duty will not escape the fire either.

Save our children, save ourselves.
